Questions & Answers:

  • What does a PA State inspection check? A state vehicle inspection covers everything from lights and wipers to car body and suspension to ensure your Subaru is working properly. Your steering, brakes, tires, exhaust, seat belt, horn, mirrors, and check engine light are also checked during state inspections. If any issues are found during your inspection, Pittsburgh drivers can rest assured that our Subaru technicians will be able to perform necessary maintenance and repairs to keep you safe on PA roads.
  • What should I bring to get my car inspected? Pennsylvania drivers will need to bring proof of liability insurance, payment for the inspection, and a current photo ID.
  • There a grace period for expired inspection stickers in PA? No. If your sticker is expired you are at risk of getting a ticket. Be sure to have your vehicle inspected before the inspection has expired to keep your sticker current.
  • Will my car pass inspection if the check engine light is on? No, if your engine light is on or not operating properly your vehicle will not be allowed to pass inspection.
  • How much does it cost to have the check engine light repaired? The price to repair a check engine light issue will vary depending on why the light is on. Our Pleasant Hills Subaru technicians use specialized Subaru tools to talk to the engine and determine what is causing the light to come on.
  • Does a PA state inspection include emissions inspection? Yes and no. Not every county in PA requires an emissions test. However, Allegheny County does require an emissions inspection. Two other reasons that your vehicle may be exempt from emissions inspection is if you have driven your car 5,000 miles or less since your last emission inspection. Or if your Subaru is a new vehicle that has driven less than 5000 miles.
